Of the 160 million returns the IRS expected to receive this tax season, about 139 million were received.
An increase of 19% compared to the previous year. So far, 5 million declarations remain to be processed.
“More than 88 million refunds have been issued to eligible individuals, because not everyone is eligible for a total $267 billion refund,” said IRS spokeswoman Yviand Serbones Hernández.
What also increased was the average amount taxpayers received in their refunds.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE YOUR REFUND AND ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE IT
"If people filed their returns electronically without errors, the average is 9 out of 10 people should receive their refund in 21 days."
But if you mailed it, the wait is 6-12 weeks.
